Hiking to the summit of Mount Rinjani - the second highest volcano of Indonesia (3Days/2Nights)

For bookings talk to travel agencies or the place where you stay at the moment. There you will get the best deals with transfers to senaru, accommodation and the tour as complete package (remember: everything is negotiable).

Let´s do it

After breakfast and a briefing from our guide, we got picked up at our place in Senaru. Thats where most of the hikers are staying. The ride is a good opportunity to connect with the team and a fun ride of course.

Finally the time has come to start walking. Everything begins with a first step. And there were a lot more to come as I saw the volcano in front of us. "Let´s do it"

On our way up porters and other hikers came down the path. I was looking in their faces and thought: "this is gonna be though"

But if they can do it sandals, I can do it in running shoes.

...walking, walking and walking. You will have a lot of time to think.

Our camp at 2.400m on the crater edge. The porters are preparing dinner. I promise you, at that point everything tastes like the best meal you ever had. The meals we got were plenty and yummy. My compliments to the chefs/porters who prepared gorgeous food on top of the mountain with only some camping cookers.

No one said it´s gonna be easy...

After a short night, we got up at 3am to hike to the summit. With headlamps we started the accent to 3.726m to the top. It was pitch black, dusty and the loose ground didn't make it easier. The last section to the top will bring you to your physical and mental limits. I was surprised how far you still can go after one said "I can't go any further". Its all in your head. So just do it ;-)

...the rewarding feeling you get when you mastered it and stand on the top is indescribable.

You will also be rewarded with views only the brave will get to see.

Here are more impressions of the hike.
